How to Perform Sundarkand Path
- 1 Begin by cleaning the area where you plan to perform the Path. Take a purifying bath and wear clean clothes. Set up a clean, elevated space (altar) and place images or idols of Lord Rama, Sita, Lakshman, and especially Lord Hanuman. Ensure you have a copy of the Sundarkand text readily available.
- 2 Gather all necessary puja items. This includes a lamp (diya) with oil or ghee and wicks, incense sticks (agarbatti), camphor (kapoor), fresh flowers, fruits, sweets (naivedya or prasad), a small pot or glass of water (jal), and a clean cloth for the altar. Ensure everything is within easy reach before starting.
- 3 Sit comfortably facing the idols/pictures, preferably towards the East or North. Light the diya and the incense sticks, placing them respectfully on the altar. As you light them, silently offer a prayer for a peaceful and successful Path, inviting divine presence into your home.
- 4 Hold a little water in your right palm and express your intention (sankalp) for performing the Sundarkand Path. You can simply state your name, family's name, and the specific wish or purpose for which you are doing the Path, like seeking strength, peace, or overcoming obstacles. Then, release the water onto the ground or in a plant.
- 5 Before starting the main recitation, briefly offer a prayer to Lord Ganesha, requesting him to remove any obstacles from your Path. Then, offer a simple prayer to Lord Hanuman, expressing your devotion and asking for his blessings to help you complete the Sundarkand Path with full concentration and devotion.
- 6 Open your copy of the Sundarkand. Start reciting the verses clearly and with devotion. You can sing them if you know the tunes, or simply read them aloud. Maintain a peaceful and focused mind throughout the recitation, pausing occasionally to offer flowers to the deities or sip water if needed.
- 7 Once the entire Sundarkand Path is complete, offer the prepared fruits and sweets (prasad) to Lord Hanuman and the other deities. Then, light a camphor lamp and perform Aarti, circling the lamp clockwise in front of the idols while singing or chanting the Hanuman Aarti. This signifies the culmination of your devotion.
- 8 After the Aarti, distribute the consecrated prasad among all family members and anyone present. Share the blessings and positive energy generated from the Path. Finally, bow down before the deities, express gratitude for a successful Path, and silently ask for their continued blessings for your family's well-being and prosperity.
